Tonic Restaurant is our go-to for a special occasion. The 5 course set menu is never disappointing, and adding the suggested wines for each course makes for a very long, enjoyable lunch.
This was our second visit to this outstanding restaurant in beautiful Milthorpe. On both occasions the 5 course degustation dinner containing local produce has been exceptional. At $90 per head the meal provides great value for money and sufficient food to ensure one does not leave hungry. Service and wine list are also brilliant.
I loved Tonic. Beautiful venue in a very cute surroundings. We went for lunch, it was a 5 course degustation and all courses were fantastic. You are offered a good variety of chicken, fish, duck and steak (note, the menu is subject to change). Service was great.
I would not mind going back there if I am in Orange again
Beautiful restaurant in a quiet quaint town. 5 course with matching wines - delicious meal. They accommodated to our allergies/dietary requirement. Highly recommend, will return!
In the heart of the historic town of Millthorpe you’ll find Tonic. Undoubtedly one of the best regional restaurants in NSW. Definitely on par with Selkirk’s when it was around. Our only minor gripe was we had to ask for our wine to be topped up on a couple of occasions; other than that, superb. We’re regular visitors to the Orange district; if you haven’t visited, it’s a foodies paradise. Make sure you visit this gem if you’re in the area, you definitely won’t regret it.
The place that packs an absolute punch in terms of food flavour, presentation and taste! Staff are incredible with impeccable service, the wine list is great and I cannot praise the food highly enough. Definitely a must visit if you are anywhere near Orange, you will be treated to incredible fine dining like it used to be in the good old days!
Not as good as it used to be or should be!
No maitre d that comes around asking if everything is OK. Service is robotic and no personality at all just drop the plates and run.
Attached is the menu similar to our visit 6 months earlier.
Confit of Pork was mixed quality skin tough and chewy and impossible to cut with the knife provided, some in our group had pure fat no meat so left it and others skipped as meat was too tough to eat.
Problem is when in a group some do not like to complain or return the plate to the kitchen...
Duck Lasagne was good but served warm for me whereas my wife's was hot.
Lime tart was something I expect from my local bakery. Mushroom Veloute was awesome, Snapper was yummy too but only 2 dishes I would say was excellent.
Very good food but sometimes could be a little more delicate / subtle. Most courses were great, but that's what you pay for.
However, the whole experience was on the restaurant's time. It was mostly at an OK pace but it quickened and became obvious they wanted all tables out. Waiter spoke to one table for 2 x 10 mins but didn't say boo to us (couple). Clinical service.
The clincher was when the desert dishes were picked up, the waiter walked off, saying 'I'll get your bill'. Normally we ask for it!
